The top questions asked about Plasma Hair Restoration (PRP)

When will I see progress?

Most clinical experts recommend a series of at least three PRP treatments over three - four months to see meaningful progress — that’s why we conveniently offer our starter series with three sessions. Think of it like laser hair removal, tattoo removal, or anything else that takes a series of sessions to see results.

While you may see some early signs of progress within the initial series of three, clinicians evaluate results at the six-month mark from your first treatment.

Why then? Our natural hair growth cycle takes time to work. If we think of our hair like a lawn of grass, PRP is like an all-natural fertilizer. It doesn’t speed up how our hair naturally grows, but it does feed the follicles to support and encourage growth and can help prolong our hair’s growth phase.

Is it safe?

Yes! PRP is considered one of the safest medical treatments for hair available.

Since PRP comes from your own body, there are no chemicals, additives, or foreign substances injected into the scalp (unlike cosmetic injectables). PRP is an all-natural treatment for hair growth.

Your safety is our number one priority. All of our clinical staff are board-certified medical professionals, who specialize in hair. Each of our treatment rooms is fully equipped to handle a PRP treatment from start to finish. That means your blood never leaves the room. We use hospital-grade sanitation practices across all equipment.

What does it feel like?

PRP treatment typically involves minimal discomfort, with most individuals describing it as a mild sensation similar to that of laser hair removal or Botox injections.

The treatment time is quick - only about 5 minutes.

We have many ways to make you comfortable and relaxed. These include a state-of-the-art hyper-chilled cooling device (Zimmer Cyro Chiller) to alleviate pain, a massaging and cooling mask for your eyes, a squeeze ball for stress relief, and a small but effective amount of lidocaine for additional comfort. Additionally, we provide PRO-NOX, a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system, to help minimize discomfort and anxiety upon request.

Our clinicians perform this treatment day in and day out and they'll narrate you through the treatment so you know where you are and how you’re doing.

Are there side effects or any recovery time?

The great thing about PRP is that there is no recovery time needed - most patients feel good enough to immediately go back about their day.

After the treatment, you may feel a bit of pressure in your head (minor headache or lightheadedness) from the excess plasma in your scalp that is now starting to feed your follicles. Most patients will take Tylenol (do not take other NSAIDs like Advil, Motrin) for pain relief.

Over the next few hours, your scalp may experience some slight sensitivity or soreness, which you may notice when shampooing or towel drying your hair (just go easy!).

If you have very light-colored hair, you may notice some slight pink color near your roots from the pinpoint bleeding of the injections. This will wash out when you rinse and shampoo your hair after treatment.

Can I do PRP the same day as my consultation?

You can! If you have (1) booked a First Time Visit + Treatment to reserve time on our schedule, (2) you are a good candidate for PRP, and (3) you’ve arrived following our pre-treatment preparation instructions (i.e., well-hydrated in the prior 24 hours), you have the option of receiving your first PRP session the same day as your consultation.

How do I get the best results with PRP?

PRP, like any treatment for hair growth, gets the best outcomes when combined with other treatments, products, solutions. This approach, known as combination therapy, significantly improves outcomes.

Your clinician can tailor a treatment plan that may include PRP alongside other complementary therapies, like prescription medication, supplements, shampoos, etc.

To further enhance the effectiveness of your PRP treatment, it is important to:

Arrive Well Hydrated: Ensure you are well-hydrated before your treatment. Proper hydration helps improve the quality of the PRP and facilitates a smoother blood draw.

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Adopt a healthy lifestyle to support overall hair growth. This includes eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals, exercising regularly, managing stress, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.

Follow Post-Treatment Care Instructions: Adhere to the aftercare guidelines provided by your clinician to optimize the benefits of your PRP therapy.

How much does it cost, and is it covered by insurance?

Get better hair without breaking the bank. Since we specialize solely in non-surgical hair restoration, we can offer accessible pricing compared to other medical spas or dermatologists. Our 3-session PRP series is only $1,950 ($650 per treatment).

It's important to note that PRP for hair restoration is generally not covered by insurance.

What should I expect during a PRP treatment session?

When you come in for a PRP treatment session, you will first meet with one of our board-certified clinicians. During this initial consultation, we will discuss your background, medical history, and hair restoration goals. We will also perform a thorough hair and scalp evaluation to understand your specific needs.

Based on this information, we will discuss the various treatments and options available to you. If PRP therapy is determined to be a good fit for you, we can proceed with the treatment on the same day.

The PRP treatment itself is straightforward and minimally invasive. It begins with a simple blood draw, similar to what you might experience during a routine blood test. The drawn blood is then placed in a centrifuge for about 10 minutes to separate out the platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which contains natural growth factors essential for hair growth.

Once the PRP is ready, it is quickly injected into your scalp, focusing on areas of concern. The entire process is designed to be quick and efficient, and we offer several ways to ensure your comfort during the treatment.

Overall, you can expect a professional and compassionate experience aimed at helping you achieve your hair restoration goals.
