What is PRP hair treatment and how does it work?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) hair treatment uses your body's natural growth factors to reactivate dormant hair follicles and stimulate new hair growth.

Here's the process: we draw a small amount of your blood (similar to a routine blood test), spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, then quickly inject the platelet-rich plasma directly into thinning areas of your scalp.

These concentrated platelets contain powerful growth factors that wake up sleeping follicles, improve blood flow to your scalp, and trigger your hair's natural growth cycle. What should I expect during a PRP treatment?

Here's what happens:

Blood Draw (5 min): Just like a routine blood test—quick and easy.

Aftercare Discussion: We review your personalized treatment plan and next steps.

When will I see results from PRP?

PRP works with your hair's natural growth cycle, which can take up to 6 months. There are no overnight magic solutions when it comes to real hair regrowth. Here's what to expect:

Month 1-2: PRP is working beneath the surface, activating dormant follicles and triggering your hair's growth phase. You might not see visible changes yet, but the biological process has begun.

Month 3: Many patients notice reduced hair shedding—less hair in the shower drain or on your pillow. This is usually the first sign PRP is working.

Month 4-6: Visible thickness and density improvements become noticeable. You'll see baby hairs along your hairline, fuller coverage in thinning areas, and improved hair texture.

Month 6+: Continued improvement with maintenance treatments every 6-12 months to sustain and build on your results.

What are the side effects of PRP hair treatment?

PRP is one of the safest hair restoration treatments because it uses your own blood; there's virtually no risk of allergic reaction or rejection.

What you WON'T experience: No systemic side effects, no sexual dysfunction, no chemical reactions, and no scarring. Because PRP is autologous (from your own body), serious complications are extremely rare. You're simply giving your follicles a natural boost with your body's own healing factors.

What does PRP feel like?

PRP involves minimal discomfort, and we have many ways to make you feel comfortable. Most patients rate the discomfort as 2-4 out of 10. The actual injections take only 3-5 minutes, so any discomfort is brief.

We use several comfort techniques: a touch of lidocaine, a cooling spray, and strategic injection techniques to minimize sensation. For patients who are needle-sensitive or anxious, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax throughout the procedure.

The most common feedback we hear? "That was easier than I expected." The anticipation is usually worse than the actual experience.

Is there downtime after PRP?

No downtime - you can return to work and resume most normal activities immediately after treatment.

Some patients experience mild redness, tenderness, or slight swelling at injection sites for 1-2 days, similar to after a deep facial treatment. These effects are typically gone within 24 hours.

What to avoid for 24-48 hours: Intense exercise, saunas, hot yoga, or excessive sweating to optimize healing and keep injection sites clean.

What you CAN do: Gentle hair washing the next day, normal styling, work, social activities, and light exercise. Most patients schedule their appointments during lunch breaks or after work with zero disruption to their routine.
