Summary
After your PRP session, some mild, temporary sensations are completely normal — scalp fullness from the injected fluid, a mild headache, and slight soreness for 24 to 36 hours. Showering and light shampooing are fine. For the first 24 hours, skip vigorous workouts, direct sun on the scalp, alcohol, and anything that involves rubbing or pressing the scalp. For 48 hours, avoid pools, saunas, steam rooms, NSAIDs, topical treatments like minoxidil, and hair coloring or heat styling. Serious side effects are extremely rare — but if you notice pus-like drainage, a fever, or severe pain that doesn't improve within 24 to 36 hours, reach out to us right away.
Congratulations on completing your Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment! Taking the right steps after your session is crucial for ensuring your comfort and achieving the best possible results.
Here is a simple guide on what to expect and what to avoid:
What to Expect & Do After
It's normal to experience a few mild and temporary sensations following your PRP session.
Fullness or pressure is normal
Your scalp might feel fuller for a bit due to the injected fluid. A mild headache is also common. You can take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for any discomfort.
Mild soreness is normal
You may notice slight soreness or tenderness for 24-36 hours. With subsequent treatments, this discomfort often becomes shorter in duration.
Showering is safe and allowed
Showering is safe (but not required) and light shampooing is fine. Gently pat dry with a clean towel. Avoid vigorous scrubbing or toweling.
Serious side effects are extremely rare, but please reach out immediately if you experience pus-like drainage, a fever, or severe pain that doesn't improve with Tylenol over 24-36 hours.
Avoid for 24 Hours
Sweaty, vigorous workouts — These raise the risk of bacteria and discomfort
Over-manipulating your scalp — Scratching, picking, pressing, or vigorously scrubbing.
Direct sun exposure on your scalp
Significant alcohol consumption
Avoid for 48 Hours
Pools & Saunas — To keep the scalp clean and free of potential infection, avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or other excessive sweating.
Certain Medications & Supplements — Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Advil, Aleve, or Motrin. Take Tylenol for any headaches or discomfort.
Topical Treatments — Pause the use of topical formulas like minoxidil, serums, or scalp exfoliants.
Haircuts & Intense Hair Care — Refrain from coloring, bleaching, heat styling, or any hair treatments that involve tugging or pulling on the hair.
