Why Your 6-Month Check-In Is So Important

When you see your hair in the mirror every single day, it’s can be hard to notice the slow and steady changes happening. Hair growth is a gradual process, a bit like watching grass grow.

That’s why the 6-Month Check-In is such an important appointment—and by the way, this visit is complimentary and included in your treatment package.

Why The 6-Month Check-In Is Important

You get used to the hair that you see day in and day out. But we haven't seen you in a few months. So, this visit is one where we have a unique perspective – not only of your hair, but of what to clinically do next.

This is why the 6-Month Check-In is so valuable. It gives us an opportunity to:

  • Have an open conversation: Discuss how you're feeling about your progress so far and what you're open to doing to continue on the growth path

  • Step back and compare photos: Recognize subtle improvements like thicker strands or new baby hairs that are easy to miss day-to-day. A single hair only grows about half an inch a month, and new growth often starts out so fine, it can be hard to notice early.

  • Make a clinical plan for what's next: Fine-tune your treatment plan, whether that's starting your booster/maintenance cadence or adding something else to push your results further.

Feeling vs. Measuring Progress

How you feel about your hair is important. We start every 6-Month Check-In with this first. Maybe your hair feels fuller or your part doesn’t look as wide. Maybe your barber or hairstylist said, "I think your hair is more dense!" Or maybe your partner or colleague said, "Something about you looks different!" We've heard all of this. The slightest shifts are often perceptible by others.

But we also look at progress more objectively, too. In your 6-Month Check-In, we'll look at:

  • Standardized photos: Same lighting and angle as your first visit, so we can assess both stabilization and growth.

  • Scalp camera check-in: Sometimes the newest growth is best seen at 40x while it's densifying.

Many people are amazed to see, side by side, just how far they’ve come—even if the changes felt subtle at home.

Stabilizing Loss: Quiet Progress That Matters

We all want quick regrowth. However, stabilizing further hair loss is a significant, crucial, and often uncelebrated, win in hair restoration.

Without stabilization, new growth can be hard to notice if loss continues.Think of it like taking a breath before a long run or that moment in tug-of-war where the momentum is about to shift in your favor.

If your hair loss has stabilized by your check-in, celebrate this progress! It's a sign your treatment is working – we're pushing the future out.

"When you stare at yourself in the mirror everyday, it's really hard to appreciate the growth you've gotten."

- Stef R., Director of Clinical Services

So, What Happens Next?

At your 6-Month Check-In, you and your clinician will have a conversation about what’s working and what's next:

  • Moving into maintenance/boosters: If you’re making progress, we keep going into maintenance/booster treatments which are 2-3x annually.

  • Adding in other therapies: As you know, combination therapy gets the best results. We often talk with clients at this juncture about adding something in that they might have bookmarked for later, like a prescription or supplement.

  • Have patience: While we do our check-in at 6 months, new hair growth from any treatment continues to come to fruition in the 6-9+ months window, so there's still more growth ahead of you.

Remember, this 6-Month Check-In is designed to track your progress and celebrate your wins, big or small. We can't wait to show you how far you've come and continue planning how we keep your best hair days in front of you.
