No. Since you’ll want to rinse this product out after 15 minutes, we designed it so you can apply it pre-shower. Even if your hair has styling product in it or you just finished a workout, just apply it right to the scalp and it’ll do its deep cleaning work.

The first time you use this product, we recommend doing what’s called a ‘test patch’ where you apply it to a small, more discreet area (like on the side of your head) to see how you scalp reacts. This product has been formulated to be effective but very gentle, so the most you should feel is a bit of coolness and tingling from the peppermint oil.

You should leave this product on for 15 minutes, at most. This allows it time to do its job – for the glycolic and salicylic acid duo to exfoliate and for the GrowthFactor Formula™ ingredients to topically absorb. We do not recommend leaving this on beyond the 15 minutes as instructed.

That’s totally normal and expected. Here’s a little more on why—

First, the average person loses about 50 to 150 hairs a day and we tend to notice it most in the shower – we’re manipulating our hair in the shower more than any other time of the day. (And, often the walls and floors of a tub or shower are a light backdrop to see that shedding hair.)

Secondly, this product contains a gentle exfoliating acid duo that loosens the ‘glue’ holding dead skin cells together. Think of the acid duo as ‘pacmen’ eating up that glue and allowing your scalp to release what’s dead to make way for what’s new. In doing so, hairs that are in the final exogen phase, or shedding phase, sometimes go with that debris and gunk that’s swept away.

The RootSupport Scalp Treatment has no added fragrance. The scent you’re picking up is the peppermint oil that cools and relieves scalp sensitivity and is known to stimulate the scalp and hair follicles to promote hair growth. (Peppermint Oil Promotes Hair Growth without Toxic Signs)

You can, but we designed this product to be applied before you shower since it requires rinsing out after 15-20 minutes. You can apply it to dry hair, even hair with product in it. If you are applying it to wet hair, make sure it’s damp, towel-dried hair and not sopping wet hair.

Yes. Too much of a good thing is not good here! This is a deep cleaning product and is ideal for use once or twice a week. If you use an exfoliant or scrub on your face, this product performs a similar function, clearing away dead skin cells and debris and making way for new skin cells. Over exfoliating any skin, including your scalp, can result in irritation and sensitization to products.

The blend combines keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) and microalgae extract which both encourage growth and follicle health; a seaweed bioferment that is like a probiotic for your scalp; soothing, anti-inflammatory ancient herb gotu kola; and a DHT-inhibiting defense duo of saw palmetto and nettle root extract.
